Saaremaa Opera Festival

The Saaremaa Opera Festival will take place in the Kuressaare castle courtyard on 23-28 July. This year you can get acquainted with the Catalonian Opera.

In addition to high artistic quality, the goal of choosing guest theaters for the beloved Saaremaa Opera Festival has always been presenting opera lovers with new national cultures and theatres. Over the course of its 40-year history, Catalonian Opera has held more than one thousand shows in over twenty cities and festivals throughout Catalonia. The company has also performed in other parts of Spain, Andorra, and Uruguay.

During this time, the company has presented over 75 different opera works which have been attended by more than 350,000 spectators. Some of the most frequently performed titles over the past four decades include „La traviata“, „Don Giovanni“, „La bohème“, and „Carmen“. All productions are designed and manufactured by the company’s own team, including costumes and set design.

The central venue of the festival has become the well-known attraction of Western Estonia, the medieval Kuressaare castle with its courtyard where an opera house with a capacity of 2,000 spectators is built.
Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa, is particularly lively at the time: the terraces of cafes are open until late at night and the people are in a festive mood.
