Mushroom Picking Nature-Walk

MUSHROOM-PICKING with VEIKO KASTANJE
Join us for a mushroom foraging nature walk guided by a renowned Estonian mycologist
Prepare to be amazed by the variety of mushrooms that grow in our forests—many of which we may never notice during our everyday walks.
Veiko Kastanje has studied mycology and botany at Tartu University; worked as a guest researcher at Helsinki University, University of Gothenburg and National Botanical Garden of Belgium. Veiko takes every chance he gets to go on mushroom foraging trips and organise mushroom exhibitions. He has also translated several mushroom picking and identification handbooks into Estonian.
Veiko has a fascinating story to share about every mushroom he encounters in the woodland. You will learn how to identify your own mushroom spots, which fungi are safe to pick and which should be left in the forest, as well as how to preserve your finds for the winter months. He will also share tales about “magical mushrooms,” and the health benefits of mushrooms from both our local forests and far-flung continents.
The walk will conclude with a special surprise: amidst the mushrooms and nature, our chef will prepare a delicious treat using the mushrooms you have gathered. A true delight for any forager!
For the evening, Chef de Cuisine Achim Braitsch has created a fabulous three-course menu, dedicated to the tastes of the islands, based on local ingredients, in which foraged mushrooms will play a significant role.
